The Villages is a Retirement Paradise in San Jose

The Villages is an exclusive community near Evergreen and Silver Creek in San Jose. Across 1200 well-manicured acres, there are thousands of condominiums and traditional single-family dwellings.

The full name of this 55+ gated community is The Villages Golf and Country Club. Homes aren’t limited by style or size and there are options for anyone in the retirement phase of their lives. The affluent area includes a championship golf course and clubhouse, swimming pools, tennis courts, and many more amenities (we’ll talk about them later).

Even though The Villages is tucked away from the urban sprawl up against the mountains, it only takes 20 minutes to reach Central San Jose. Important services, like healthcare or top-level schools, are also very nearby.

We’re going to tour The Villages, focusing on the country club and other things that residents need.

What Are Homes Like in The Villages?

The residential parts of The Villages surround the golf and country club. Main roads like The Villages Parkway and Fairway Drive cut through and around the course itself, though you should avoid parking your vehicle behind the greens.

The Villages is a gated community for residents over the age of 55. Even the Google Street View Car was turned away!

Once you gain entry, different sections of The Villages are connected by gently winding roads. The area is quite well organized and completely free of traffic. The entrance to The Villages Golf & Country Club is on the perimeter of The Villages, so residents are unaffected by golfers coming and going.

The Design and Architecture of The Village Homes

Most of the homes in the southern parts of The Villages are condos or single-family homes. The properties are reasonably priced, considering the high-value area you’d be living in.

Some of the older properties date back to the late 1960s and the newest homes were built in 1999. To summarize the homes, each property is tastefully designed, with color palettes that are classic in this area. Terracotta roofs are common, with walls adorned in pastel shades of cream, sandstone, or azure.

Trees line the streets and green spaces small and large are dotted all over The Villages.

Our listings in The Villages range in price from around $500,000 to just over $1 million.

As you rise up the hillside in the north, the homes become more palatial and affluent. Montecitos, Laguna, and Belmonte are a few of the northern roads with spectacular properties. The area is very peaceful to stroll through at any time of day.

What Kind of Outdoor Attractions Are Nearby?

The entire neighborhood is built around The Village Golf & Country Club and residents spend a considerable amount of time there. The design of the course makes for interesting games, especially when you’re shooting over one of the water features.

The green fees are very reasonable for members and guests. 18-hole cart rentals are just $15 for members and $20 for guests.

Aside from golfing, The Village Golf & Country Club has other ways to exercise (and pamper).

“Villagers” can swim in any of the four different pools under the club's management, each one within The Village community. If you don’t feel like practicing your backstroke, how about an expert massage in one of the spas?

The Country Club’s Restaurant

The Clubhouse has a great selection of seafood, like clam linguini, honey garlic salmon, and prawns provencal. The patio is a fantastic option for dinner, but most importantly on weekends when the slow-roasted prime rib is being served.

The lunch and breakfast menus are equally mouth-watering. After thorough research and testing, our experts tell us that a patio brunch at The Clubhouse pairs perfectly with 18 holes of golf.

Other Places to Relax Outdoors in The Villages

You don’t need to visit the Golf & Country Club to enjoy the scenery. There’s a lovely gazebo park near the middle of The Villages, with a small lawn bowling course, barbecue pits, and views of the golf course.

The Vineyard Center is another place where Villagers can attend events and taste world-class fermented grapes. There’s a spa here, a full-sized pool, and a gorgeous social hall, which can be rented out for all kinds of events.

There’s also a small community vegetable and fruit garden at the top of Village View Drive. While you’re laying down roots in The Village, let some tomatoes or pumpkins grow some roots too.

Hikers and strollers will be satisfied living here. The space to the north of The Villages is crisscrossed by hiking trails and paths, with stunning views of the San Francisco Bay Area.
